EdTech Free Inquiry: Project 1980 Toyota Corolla AKA BrownCar

Well, here’s a picture of BrownCar.

I’ve owned this lovely lady for approximately 4 years now, and during that time she has never once driven on the road. She has never even had an engine running in her.

Backstory: BrownCar has been in our “family” for around 8 years, and I still remember the day she came home, because she came home on a flatdeck tow truck. Now, so far it’s looking to you like she hasn’t EVER driven, but despite her tow truck start, she actually ran perfectly well, serving as my partner’s “daily driver” (we are car people, we have multiple cars for multiple uses) for a solid 4 years before the motor and transmission just didn’t run very nicely and he stopped driving it. I bought it from him, and then just never found the motivation to work on her until earlier this year.

Now I’d like to take a moment before I dive in more to acknowledge that this has been and will continue to be a project where I rely pretty heavily on the help and expertise of my partner Warren, as well as YouTube, other friends in the car community, and car mechanic forums (you’ll meet Dori-Kaze soon). But I guess it makes it a pretty multi-modal or multi-literate project (I haven’t decided what it falls under yet).

This is how she currently sits:

So, my project’s end goal will be to get her running by the end of the semester. Will it happen? I’m not sure, but it’s certainly nice to have goals!

Watch this space for updates!
